Over all, charts no section of the
stalls has been dominant.
These races start from a chute near the entrance to the straight.
The stalls are usually positioned High, away from the inside rail.
This is s left-handed course.
Stall number 1 is therefore nearest to the inside rail.
It appeared that
horses had difficulties if running hard early from stall 1 to secure a good position
round the bend,
or if saving their effort for the end of races they struggled to pick their way past other horses.
Whatever your theory may be, stall 1 looked like Lay material winning only 3 of
63 races 4.76% from March 2004 to Sept 2006 (Sp's 4/1,
7/1, 10/1)
From March 2004 to the end of Feb 2006, there were 28 consecutive races for horses
aged 3 yrs and older, without a winner from stall 1.
However, the recent results above
show 2 wins in 16 races 12.5%. (Sp's 9/4 and 7/4).
If all races had the maximum 10 runners, we would expect 1 in 10 winners in the
long term if there was no draw bias.
The totals are now 5 wins in 79 races 6.33%, still some way short of 10%, but in
the light of recent results, this is now only one to watch at present.
