Ascot racecourse was drastically altered in 2005.
A new stand was built, and the straight course was moved by 42 metres.
The whole of the straight mile was disrupted, and there was a lot of re-turfing.
All these alterations meant that the straight mile was a new course in 2006.
The Ascot charts therefore start from scratch, showing only 2006 results onwards.

Early in the 2006 season, there was some speculation that the Low side of the Ascot straight rode faster than the High side.
There are not enough results here to support that theory.
On good or better going, in races of 8 to 20 runners, stalls 1 to 6, and the Bottom half of the draw won only 3 of 5 races.
That is nothing to get excited about.
It will be some time before we have enough results for a meaningful analysis of these races.
