Newspaper draw advantage advice for Newbury is usually pretty unanimous in
advising "High numbers best".
Some may add "in big fields". Advice such as that is extremely
poor.
This pattern
is weak, and has not favoured horses drawn High.
On good or better going, stalls 1 to 6 won 20 of 31 races 64%.
The Top 6 stalls won 15 of 31 races.
In 2006, only 2 of 4 races were won from stalls 1 to 6 under those conditions.
In 2006, 3 of 4 races were won from the Bottom half of the draw.
The Top 6 stalls won 1 of 4 races.
Above 16
runners, all 3 races were won from stalls 1 to 4.
There is no recommendation.
On good/good to soft in places or softer going, the Top
7 stalls won 8 of 9 races, but 9 races
is a very small sample.
2006 results :- 2-10, 9-12,
3-15, 3-15, 7-16, 12-18,

Not a lot of races here and a pretty even spread of results.
Until the 2004 results were added, on good or better going in races of 8-13
runners, the Top 5 stalls won 9 of 9 races.
During 2005, only 1 in 5 races was won from the Top half of the draw.
In 2006 the single winner was drawn 8 of 10 under those conditions, but only 7
ran due to 3 non-runners.
Central positioning of the stalls may be partly to blame for the even spread of results
on this chart.
In races of 15 or more runners, on any type of going, stalls 1-6 won 0 in
13 races.
The Top half of the draw won 10 of 13 races.
There is no recommendation.
2005 results :-
8-10 (7 ran), 5-12 (8 ran)
